Activity After Osseointegration

Return to physical and professional activity

Patients after osseointegration often experience significant improvement in quality of life, including the ability to return to physical and professional activities. Thanks to the stable connection of the prosthesis to the bone, they can engage in various forms of movement that were previously difficult or impossible. In the first year after surgery, they undergo intensive rehabilitation, and after its completion they can safely lift heavier loads at the gym, improving their strength and endurance.

Many patients in Poland return to hiking and mountain activities, which was previously unattainable for them due to problems associated with traditional socket prostheses. After osseointegration surgery, patients experience greater comfort when wearing the prosthesis for longer periods, which allows them to take long walks, ride bicycles and perform daily professional duties without pain and discomfort.

After completing rehabilitation, which lasts from 6 to 12 months, patients can return to gym training, including exercises with heavier loads. They can also engage in other physical activities, such as:

  • Hiking, including in mountainous terrain,
  • Cycling,
  • Gym training,
  • Swimming,
  • Running,
  • Longer walks,
  • Physical work requiring mobility and stability.

Research shows that people after osseointegration can use the prosthesis for up to 14 hours a day

which significantly improves their mobility and quality of life, giving them greater freedom of movement and comfort in daily functioning. One of the additional benefits is lower energy consumption during walking compared to socket prostheses, which allows patients more efficient movement and less fatigue over longer distances.
